W. Kenny Massey
W. Kenny Massey is the president and CEO of Modern Woodmen of America and also serves on its Board of Directors. Massey is also chairman of the Board of Directors of Modern Woodmen Bank. He was appointed to Modern Woodmen Bank's Board of Directors in 2005.
Mr. Massey began his career with Modern Woodmen of America in 1982. Massey has served the society as a financial representative, managing partner, regional director and director of agencies before being appointed to the role as president and CEO in 2005. Massey has been a member of the Modern Woodmen of America Board of Directors since 2002.
He graduated in 1982 from Mississippi State University with a business degree, majoring in insurance. He has achieved numerous professional designations and achievements throughout his career including his LLIF from Babson College in Boston, Mass., and NASD Securities 6 & 26 licenses.
He served as a member of LL Global’s International Board of Directors and the LIMRA Executive Development Committee. He also served as past president and board member for the Fraternal Field Managers’ Association. He earned the National Security and Strategy Certificate of Leadership Development from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Kenny is currently serving on the Board of Directors for CASI (Center for Active Seniors), the Regional Opportunities Committee, and is past President of the Quad Cities Contributor’s Council. He is a member of the QC Air Service Committee and serves on the Deacon’s Board at his church.
Steven J. Ollenburg
Steven J. Ollenburg was appointed to Modern Woodmen Bank's Board of Directors in 2001. Ollenburg is president and CEO. He joined Modern Woodmen of America in 2001 to lead its venture into banking.
He has been in the banking and financial services industry since 1983 and a CEO, specializing in the federal savings bank charter, since 1992. Mr. Ollenburg also has significant experience in the formation of new banks and insurance firms that own banks. He chartered one of the first Internet banks ever formed. His banking and financial services background includes working in community banks, Fortune 500 companies, mutual organizations, closely-held companies and publicly traded companies.
He holds a BBA from the University of Iowa, and graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Mr. Ollenburg has been active in the financial services industry by serving on many boards of directors such as America's Community Bankers, Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation, Shazam Inc., and Iowa's Community Bankers. He has also served in an advisory capacity on many industry boards and committees such as the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Iowa Advisory Board and the S1 Corporation Strategic Customer Advisory Board, among others. Mr. Ollenburg has also been extremely active in community groups, service clubs and legislative panels.
Mark H. Sperfslage
Mark H. Sperfslage was appointed to Modern Woodmen Bank's Board of Directors in 2005.
Mr. Sperfslage the is executive vice president of Modern Woodmen Bank and serves as the CFO, COO and CIO. He joined Modern Woodmen of America in 2001. He started in the financial services industry in 1978 specializing in bank accounting, operations and technology. He has been in an executive management role since 1985.
His background includes oversight of significant data processing conversions and implementations. He was intricately involved in the operational and technological structure of one of the first Internet banks ever formed; this bank was formed for a Fortune 500 company. He led the development of the consolidation of disparate bank accounting and operations for an eight-bank holding company, with almost 50 locations in two states. He is considered by his peers to be an industry leader in bank workflow automation.
He holds a Bachelors degree in accounting and business from the University of Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa. He has served and continues to serve in an advisory capacity to many bank operation and technology vendors.
Dr. Michael C. Giudici
Michael C. Giudici, MD, FACC, FACP, FHRS was appointed to Modern Woodmen Bank's Board of Directors in 2001.
Dr. Giudici is a Professor of Medicine and Director of Arrhythmia Services at University of Iowa Hospitals. He graduated from Assumption High School, Carleton College, and the University of Iowa College of Medicine. After serving as a primary care physician in the US Air Force Base in Virginia and New Jersey, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and took additional training in Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology at University of Missouri Hospitals in Columbia before returning to Iowa in 1989. He established the Cardiac Electrophysiology program at St. Luke’s/Genesis Medical Center and practiced there for 23 years before joining the faculty at UIHC in 2012.
Dr. Giudici’s research interests have included new therapies for atrial fibrillation, new pacing techniques to improve cardiac performance, and new device implant techniques. He implanted the first transvenous bi-ventricular pacing defibrillator in the world in 1999. He has pioneered new implant techniques to give women pacemakers and defibrillators with no visible scar. Dr. Giudici has participated in over 100 clinical trials and has published and presented 300 papers in medical journals, and at national and international meetings. He has served as faculty at both the European and North American Heart Rhythm scientific sessions since 1994 and has served on numerous committees for the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Giudici has been name to “Best Doctors in America” annually since 2006 and received the Lewis January Teaching Excellence Award for the UIHC Division of Cardiology in 2015. He also is a regular guest on Relevant Radio Network’s “On Call” medical phone-in show answering questions on cardiology and rhythm issues from people around the country.
In addition to medicine, Dr. Giudici has had a long involvement in civic affairs and conservation work. He organized and directed the Greenway Habitat Project which raised over $1,000,000 and planted over 13,000 trees along streets and at schools and parks in Davenport. He has received awards from the Izaak Walton League, State of Iowa, and National Association of Conservation Directors for his work. He has been named Iowa Forestry Volunteer of the Year and was named national volunteer of the year by the Arbor Day Foundation. He served for many years as Vice-President of Rejuvenate Davenport, served as Board President of River Action, Board President of the Quad-City Air Service Task Force, Board President of the Scott County Beautification Foundation, and the Board of Trustees of Saint Ambrose University among many other civic boards and capital campaigns. He was awarded the "Key to the City" of Davenport. He received the Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 and the Top Cardiologists in America 2017-2018.
Monty D. Meyer
Monty D. Meyer was appointed to the Modern Woodmen Bank Board of Directors in 2009.
Mr. Meyer is a Certified Public Accountant practicing in the Quad Cities. He owns his own accounting firm based in Moline, Illinois. He was formerly with the CPA firms of Crippen, Reid and Bowen, and McGladrey and Pullen. Mr. Meyer earned a bachelors degree in accounting from the University of Iowa in 1980. He received a master of science in taxation in December of 2011.
Mr. Meyer has been involved in a number of community organizations. He is also a member of the Iowa Society of CPAs, the Illinois Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He has also earned the AICPA's personal financial planning designation, PFS.
Mr. Meyer is admitted to practice in the United Stats Tax Court as a member of the Tax Court Bar.
Dr. James A. Stewart
James A. Stewart, MD, was appointed to Modern Woodmen Bank's Board of Directors in 2012.
Dr. Stewart, a Chicago native, is partner and physician with Anesthesia & Analgesia, P.C., Bettendorf, and has served as vice president since 2006. Prior to his current role, he was chief of medical staff and member of the board of directors at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his doctor of medicine from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Currently, Dr. Stewart serves as Chairman and Secretary of Anesthesia at Genesis Health System and Anesthesia and Analgesia. He previously served as the 5th Ward Alderman for the City of Bettendorf from 2008 - May 2014.
David B. Emrick
David B. Emrick was appointed to Modern Woodmen Bank's Board of Directors in 2012.
Mr. Emrick, Davenport, Iowa, is a retired office managing partner for Deloitte and Touche Accounting. He graduated from Ball State University and earned his Certified Public Accountant certificate in 1973.
Emrick has served on the boards of the Putnam Museum and Genesis Health Services Foundation. He is the past president of the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants, Western Chapter. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Darcy G. Callas
Darcy G. Callas is the general counsel for Modern Woodmen of America and is on its Board of Directors. She is also the general counsel for Modern Woodmen Bank.
Mrs. Callas began her Modern Woodmen of America Career in 1983 as assistant counsel and then became assistant general counsel in 1994. She became general counsel and a member of Modern Woodmen of America Board of Directors in 2006.
A graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Callas earned the Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and the Associate, Life and Health Claims (ALHC) designations. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago, Illinois.
